Austin's only Brazilian choro band, Caros Amigos ("Dear Friends"). Formed in 2021, Caros Amigos specializes in the lively, toe-tapping traditional music of Brazil. A “cousin” of samba, choro is mainly an instrumental music featuring upbeat rhythms, lilting melodies, and virtuosic musicianship. Caros Amigos’ song list consists of standards by Brazilian masters as well as originals by the group and their “caros amigos.”Following Caros Amigos' set, will be a unique community-participation musical experience following the traditions of it's native Brazil - a "roda de choro" ("choro circle") - a "choro jam session." The first monthly roda on July 18, 2026 will be the official inauguration of The Austin Choro Club open to the participation of students, amateurs, musicians new to the style, and professional musicians to join Caros Amigos in making a big and joyous sound! The club is open to all ages and any instrumentation, including guitar and other plucked or bowed string instruments, percussion, brass and woodwinds, etc. The community roda will continue every 3rd Saturday of the month following Caros Amigos' first set at Batch.
