13th Floor is a rock and roll bar and independent music venue at 711 Red River Street, tucked into the heart of the Red River Cultural District. It is one of the smaller rooms on the strip, which works in its favor. The tight quarters mean the energy stays high and the sound fills the space without getting lost. The booking leans heavily into rock, punk, metal, and the louder side of the indie spectrum, though you will occasionally find hip-hop and electronic nights on the calendar. As an independent venue, 13th Floor operates outside the major booking networks, which gives it the freedom to take chances on artists that bigger rooms might pass on. That scrappy, DIY approach is a big part of what makes the Red River Cultural District feel different from the polished entertainment corridors you find in other cities. The bar is straightforward, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the staff does not get in the way of the music. If you are the kind of person who prefers a loud, sweaty room with a band you have never heard of over a reserved seat at a concert hall, 13th Floor is your spot. It represents the rougher, louder, more independent side of Austin music, the side that existed before the tech boom and the condo towers, and it is still going.
